This week’s Bookshelf Best is The Wild Robot by Peter Brown.
I didn’t think it was possible to be completely taken by a lump of metal washed up in a storm... until I read ‘The Wild Robot’. When ‘Roz’ finds herself all alone on an island without another robot (or human) in sight, she has to learn how to survive in the wild. By studying the animals (who immediately reject her in fear she is a ‘monster’) she slowly integrates herself, learns the ways of the locals and even creates herself a special little family. This is a beautiful story of survival, friendship, perseverance, acceptance and loyalty. But just when harmony is reached, there are new visitors to the island.
Will Roz’s future on the island be put in danger? An exhilarating read for 7-year-olds and upwards.
