This week's Bookshelf Best is 'Can You See Me?' by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott.
Inspired by young coauthor Libby Scott's own experiences with autism, this is a very raw and moving account of how Tally ‘tries to fit in’ as she transitions to Secondary School.
Trying to navigate scratchy uniform, agonisingly stiff shoes and ghastly comments from Luke, Tally’s days are never easy and often leave her feeling overwhelmed and unsettled. As Tally’s so called friends and sister keep pleading for her to ‘act normally’, Tally questions whether fitting in is really that important anyway.
An insightful, honest must-read for children (9 years and older) and adults!
